About the program: "Give your child(ren) a 'vacation' while you
take time to renew." Nan & Pappy's Farm is named in memory of Treva and Carl
Riggin, who were called that by their grandchildren. The farm is being turned into
a retreat for children being raised by adults other than their birth parents (grand,
foster, or adoptive parents). School-age children (minimum age of 5) will be given
the opportunity to "vacation" with Melanie Riggin. She has a Special Needs foster
license and has 19 years of experience teaching the emotionally handicapped. Her
experience in being a foster parent for a challenging child has led her to this
mission to provide a fun, wholesome place for children while their parents take time
to renew themselves. Children have the chance to experience life on the farm while
giving their parents a much need break. "While at the farm, Melanie wants the
children to forget about their yesterdays and not worry about their tomorrows."
They can experience a farm, even doing some chores, interact with animals (5 dogs
live there), play in the open spaces (acres of space are available), play games, do
crafts, break from routine (maybe even snacks in bed), do outdoor activities
(explore the barn), be a kid in every way (laugh, giggle, and be silly), and play
with Melanie (she loves to be a kid, too).
