About the program: A person may call crimestoppers if he or she has witnessed or has any information about a crime. Usually, the crime is a felony in nature--e.g., murder, rape, burglary, robbery, theft, battery, drug dealing, arson, etc. The caller's identity is not revealed because he is assigned a "tip number." If the information leads to an arrest, the crimestopper board determines the amount of the award, ranging from $100.00 to $1,000.00 The board then makes arrangements with the caller to receive the reward. The caller's information does not have to lead to a conviction, only an arrest.
